Clean driving record? Not really.
Geico searched back 8 years for convictions and they found a minor at-fault
accident 2 years ago ($800 payout, which didn't count against me), and I
think (but I'm not 100% sure) 3 convictions against me for speed. My wife
had a conviction last year for at least 20 over (in reality the cop had her
at 91 in a 55). My kids' records are clean.
So you don't have to be a saint to save money. By the way, I did NOT do
any real research. After looking at my AMICA bill ($3400), I decided it
was ridiculous and went online to the first name I thought of. 50% savings
was worth pulling the trigger on immediately. Maybe someday I'll shop
around and see who's less - it's all diminishing returns at this point.
Tom, funny you mentioned Audi Club DE. It was only yesterday I talked to
my wife about doing exactly that for my boys. She and my daughter did one
at NHIS about 3 years ago, an excellent investment that I'd like to make in
my boys.
"Driver's Ed" would be a joke if it weren't mandatory AND expensive. Get
this - they're teaching my boys NOT to aggressively turn their heads when
backing up! They're INSTRUCTING them to keep their head forward and use
mirrors? I actually find it hard to believe, but they swear it's true.
I'm not at the bottom of this yet....
