[s-cars] Volvo V70 R Wagon (NAC)

Funny read... I do car searches daily for a living Taka, there are many 535xi avants to be had in a 6speed manual (with clutch), and they are still valid models in the used BMW dealer searches. Phenom machine. v70? I have a buddy at a volvo service shop that sells at least 1 a month. After 21 years with 'quattro', I'm not a fan of Haldex at all, esp in the volvos, but even in the TT. It's part time awd best, the bmw xi series are full time awd. Replace a haldex angle gear and or controller (BTDT), the volvo just doesn't seem worth the program, nor is it a known 'once and done' problem. So much so, I'd consider a non turbo version of the bmw I6 wagons first.

Personally, I believe there is a reason the v70 pricing is where it is. Great brakes from the factory though, and I really did like the glove leather option in one I drove recently.

Cheers

Scott J

I found 9 nationwide, only 3 that you can confirm visually that they are truly 3-pedal manual transmissions. Without that, you have no idea whether or not the car is a 6-speed steptronic or a real manual. Of course, they will pop up from time to time because they're still coming off lease and are available if you do a nationwide Manheim search. You'll almost never see a V70R on Manheim any more.

No doubt that the 535xi Touring is a much better driving car. Also, there is a huge difference in price- you're talking about comparing a car that is in the $10-17k range versus a car that is $35-50k. For three times the money, I surely hope that it's a better car.

For $50k I'd be looking at a late W211 E63 wagon, CTS-V wagon or a Cayenne Turbo.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that there is a significant difference in power potential between the N54 and N55.

Sound interesting, I spoke to the twin turbo (used by definition) version because it appeared greg was looking 'used' v70... 30 seconds into cars.com just now, I found 4 535xi avant 6speeds. I have brokered two of these in the last two years, there were over 15 to choose from when I brokered one last fall. Don't do or read anything until you drive one. Back to back to the v70, it's a no brainer. IMO

You have to get the N54 twin turbo engine to get over 400hp, so that limits
you to '07-09. Manual transmission 535xi Tourings are super-rare, BTW- I've
seen maybe 5 for sale in the last 1.5 yrs., nationally.

N55 single turbo engines will not get to 400hp without a turbo swap.

HPFP is a known issue, BMW warrants it to 100k but still has problems with
it.

Lots more electrical issues with the E61- active roll bars go bad, iDrive
issues, etc. There are a million freaking electronic modules in those cars.
