[s-cars] troubleshooting aftermarket HID's

Erik;
Personally I prefer the 4500K colour - the white light seems to give better
visibility. You didn't say whether the PO installed HID projectors or just
installed a HID retrofit kit. If it's a retrofit I'd stick with the 35w as
the halogen reflectors aren't optimized for a HID capsule and the higher
wattage may produce more glare. The HID reflector is more elliptical than
the halogen reflector and projects more light to the sides and less upward
even without the effect of the mask.
As for kit source, I can't advise you there - I installed the Audi OEM HID
system from a TT in my S6, so all the components are OEM. I did have a
retrofit kit in my S4 and found the capsule mounting to be of questionable
quality.

Thanks to those of you that responded to me... swaping the stuff L/R is so
obvious, it doesn't say good things about me that I didn't think of it
before I posted!!!
Without checking, my hunch is a bulb or ballast, not the car wiring or fuse,
but I'll check.
Any more comments re: replacement HID kits? Source? Color temp? 35 vs
55w?
Thanks again,
Erik

Erik;
Swap the ballasts and see if the problem moves to the passengers side. Ditto
for the capsules. It could also be a problem with the igniter if it is
separate from the ballast. Most aftermarket kits have the igniter integrated
into the ballast, the OEM Audi HID system has the igniter as a separate
unit.
If the drivers side is still dead after swapping the parts, it's likely a
wiring or fuse problem.

The PO installed euro lenses and HID's my S4, but the drivers side just quit
working.
Is there any easy trouble shooting technique to discover if it is the balast
or bulb capsule? Or am I just better off buying one of those cheap DDM HID
kits and replacing both sides?
I suppose 4500K would be the best lighting performance? 35w or 55w?
Thanks,
Erik
