[s-cars] S6 Avant tailgate swap

Bill! Finally somebody asked a question that I have done!  My 95.5 S6 Avant
came with a rusty tailgate, and I found a hatch from a green A6 from 96ish.
I ended up doing the hatch swap at the same time as I did the whole sunroof
assembly, so I got the headliner out of the way and it helped with the hatch
swap.  Splicing the wiring was not too bad, I soldered them all in the left
rear pillar, I made sure to get  all the colors right w/ shrink tubing but
now I have a situation where when I open the hatch all of the doors lock.
The only possible wires I may have swapped are two of the brown grounds,
could they cause of the lock shenanigans?  Definitely recruit a helper for
the bolt up. The hardest part for me was the inner hatch panel. Both of the
ones I had were beat up, and no longer firmly attached to the lift gate. I
had to epoxy up some of the brackets and replace the body panel fasteners,
but in the end I have a solid working piece. Flipping the lockset is a no
brainer, with a little lock ring IIRC. 

 

I now roll in a non-pearl white S6 Avant, with a green tailgate that says A6
2.6 Quattro. I hope to have a purple drivers door (and maybe hood) soon. The
wheels are TT (??) take offs, and I took the badge out of the grill to
complete the stealth look. No Sir, officer, these aren't Recaros.

Guys 

 

My 95.5.urS6 Avant pearl white tailgate was a mess, rusting and electrics
were acting up. So last weekend I bought a very 

 

nice '97 A6 pearl white tailgate.? Besides being really heavy, IMHO doing
this swap is going to be b*tch.? 

 

How does one remove the emblems?? The A6 center four rings are gold, they
have go..?? The wiring harness 

 

are identical but I have to cut the A6 side wire harness just to remove it
from the donor car.? Anybody been here 

 

before?? Do you have some tips or links to point me in the right direction.
