pull it out and clean it first........metallic debris from normal clutch wear
will accumulate and distort the signal, especially at higher rpms

i have found this to be the problem more often than the sensor
itself....YMMV....................m

Subject: [s-cars] Boosting nicely, now a 2111 code

Hey guys,

So nice to have a free-breathing car again!  Now on to the next project.....

I am experiencing some overboost/cut out at all rpm's and it's not necessarily
all that consistent.  And it's a complete temporary shutdown, like the ECU is
shutting the fuel pump off for a second, not a gradual stumble.  The check
engine light will come on every so often while this is happening, then go off
after about 2-3 seconds.  Not every time though.  I blinked the codes and got a
"2111" which is the RPM/Engine Speed Sensor.  According to the SJM website, I
understand that this code can be misguided if the car is not running when
blinking codes, but the car was running.  With 140K miles, is it okay to assume
that this is my issue?  I have already gone through everything else while trying
to track down my lack of boost issues, such as boost leaks, vacuum leaks, fuel
pump, wastegate, etc.  My understanding is that if it's a coil or plugs, it will
just stumble a bit on the way through the rev range, not a temporary shutdown
like I am experiencing.

The sensor is about $100 from Sunset Audi......at 140K miles, seems like it
could be the culprit.  Thoughts?

Many thanks to all again.....gotta love the list!

Best regards,

Jim Fleischer
