[s-cars] Door Latch Repair or Replace?

Paul,

If yours failed the same way as mine then the door latch can be repaired. The rotating component in the lock that holds the door shut has a plastic bit moulded onto it for the return spring to push against. Over time, this plastic bit falls off and the latch doesn't rotate back out of the way when you open the door. When you subsequently close the door the latch is in the way and the door will bounce open.

I replaced one lock with a secondhand one from an Audi 100 or A6 before I worked out how to repair the failed lock. When the lock on the other door failed I repaired it successfully. The fix is to open the lock assembly and rebuild that plastic bit with epoxy putty so that the rotary spring has something to push against.
