[s-cars] S6 hood release cable?

I'd guess what has happened is the retaining clamps for the cable have 
let go, allowing tons of slack.

I made a tool from a dowel and a plastic hook. Get under the car, reach 
up with the hook and release each side. It is not as simple as it 
sounds.. It would help to have a person lifting up the hood as you try 
to release the cable.

You can zip tie the cable in a couple places or you can do what JC did
