Brian, All this time and effort expended and nary a mention of DTCs. Hard to
believe you have been through 20 years without making an acquaintance of the
first step to be taken with troubleshooting any problem.
VCDS with VAG-COM software is the most friendly method, but you can also
blink the codes on the MIL. See Scott Mockery’s information at sjmautotechnik.com <http://sjmautotechnik.com/>.
As noted by others, you need to find that hiss, that is most likely a boost leak. Your
post would lead me to believe a hose clamp has been overtightened and crimped the
hose bib. It is common for new silicone hose installations to slip off the bibs at the
MM hose, but that usually results in a massive boost leak at WOT and a fuel cut
with the violent bucking known as the brick wall.
