I had an 01 allroad tippy, and have an 00 S4 6 speed that Cody is now familiar with. The engine is superb, one of Ward's 10 best at the time. Now that the clutch is new and we have all 6 forward gears the S4's a hoot. I would've kept the allroad had it been a manual.
I echo what Cody and Eric have both said. 00 was the first year for that engine and they made some improvements over the course of time, but if the car is solid (what part of the country?) and there's any wiggle room it could be a steal.

I have a 2001 Allroad with the 2.7T, but a manual. So this is basically
the same car, but a wagon and a manual. I had valve cover leaks onto the
turbo which I had to fix. I have had problems with the air suspension, but
that is expected and you wouldn't have to worry about that. Other than
that it has been a great car. I have an APR chip and stupid amounts of
torque, but I don't think the automatic would hold up to that. It is a
super nice driving car. This time of year I love the heated steering wheel.
