While the allroad is a more complicated car due to the air suspension, it is
otherwise mechanically similar to the A6 sedan/wagon. Later years have
beefier transmissions, and those of us that run into trannie issues are
tempted to do the 6MT swapfor now mine¹s fine at 130K
I would disagree on the quality issues
My C4s were great cars, and we¹re just at the end with our ¹96 A6 at
235Kstill running strong.
I¹ve owned a ¹99 A6, an ¹02 A6 and now an ¹04 allroad. The ¹99 was one of my
favorite carsbought it from Chris Semple 8 or so years ago with 135K, and
sold it last year with 230K. There were some niggling issues along the way,
but overall, I wouldn¹t hesitate to buy another C5 (and bought a needy ¹04
allroad a year ago!).
Our ¹05 C6 does feel like the quality is down a bitinterior isn¹t quite as
solid, and new stupid things are going wrong (wonky intermittent taillight
that either needs a new bulb, grounds cleaned, or replacement). Oh well
We didn¹t buy these cars because they are rock solid boring :)
