[s-cars] Battery Recommendation (don't shoot)

Yes and no on Taka's take on what I meant. Yes, they do require a
charger/tender that has an AGM setting, but ALSO they require different
charging methods even in relation to the alternator. A lead acid takes a
higher float voltage (ie alternator output voltage when the battery is
already fully charged) than an AGM, so a typical 14.4v voltage regulator
designed for a lead acid will overcharge an AGM. An acceptable AGM float
voltage would be more like 13.5v to 13.8v maximum.
The big no-no is if one gets low and the car either barely starts using the
mostly dead battery or gets jump started. If the alternator starts trying to
charge an AGM that is at 50% you may as well kiss it goodbye. I see it ALL
THE TIME on race cars (where AGM is popular due to weight) that sit in
storage without a tender, then the owner impatiently only partially charges
it then fires the car up. This is bad for a lead acid too, but they seem to
take it a little better.

I think what Cody means is that if you put an AGM battery on a charger, you
need a charger that can either auto-detect and adjust its charging cycle or
you need to manually switch it to AGM.
My battery tenders have an AGM setting that needs to be used if you have it
hooked up to an AGM battery as well.
