I'm the opposite of Bjorn's post.  I've placed my '94 S4 on hospice.  At 
about 260k miles it still runs great.  What isn't great is more and more 
rattles, wind and road noise from deteriorating door and window seals, 
and NLA seat heater elements.  In the 18 years I've had the car, I got 
18 years older and have lost my enthusiasm for a lot of car work.  I'm 
now at timing belt change mileage, and this time I'm just going to let 
it pass and take my chances.  When the clutch, with 140k miles on it, 
goes, I may decline to put so much money into the car and put it out to 
pasture.  Might the same story with the next set of tires.  It's a daily 
driver, but only at about 6k miles per year now, so it could possibly 
last another 10 years.  There's the potential of it outlasting me!
