What I've done is cut a length of old wiper blade and wedge it on the back
of the mirror assembly. If I felt like it, I could trim it so it would be
pretty much invisible.

The easy functioal solution is to get a largish o-ring and slide it over the
mirror and in between the mirror housing and the door. It will take up the
slack and be hidden if you get the right size.
