Having put a little more thought into this....I guess I wonder how
comfortable people are taking their cars on a road trip. And I'm not talking
a 2 hr drive-I'm talking a real road trip. Personally I very comfortable
with it. My experience has been that as finnicky as the urq's can be, they
typically don't strand you. They may act up and not _perform_ to their
greatest potential, but they keep chugging and you shouldn't be stranded
(YMMV!!!). I drove mine to Monterey '99 from Denver, alone with no
mechanical skills othe rthan changing oil spark plugs and tires, maybe, well
probably foolishly, for the Historics. I don't think I brought any tools
except a jack and whatever was left in that "toolbag"..likely just a screw
driver and lug wrench. No problems. The boys in Chicago and Detroit come
out here every winter for Steamboat. Dave D drove his car from here to San
Diego then on to Baja on a whim and back. I think he had a throttle switch
issue but it was nothing that kept him from completing the journey. I hope
people have enough faith in their cars to get out of town with them. I
would aslo think that most people would try to caravan anyway, thereby
reducing further any potential risk. Tool duty, parts, etc can be shared.
Just curious...I'd hate for people not partake in fun for fear their car
will not get them there and back. Keep the faith!
Brandon
