[been away from e-mail for a while, looks like I need to catch up on this thread ... a West Coast UPG sounds great! I did have a comment on this particular post though ...]

... amusing to see this ... I guess you get used to the situation where you are. The one and only time I drove through the state of Oregon I got nailed by one of Oregon's finest sitting at the end of a passing lane on my way to Crater Lake ... I was decelerating from a passing maneuver of a logging truck when I rounded the curve into the REO's view ... too bad there weren't signs letting me know that there was a passing lane right around the corner! It sure seemed to me that Oregon's means for increasing revenue is to have cops with speed guns sitting on the road going into just about every little town along the way. I swore that if I ever had to drive in the state again I would sit on I-5 doing whatever the posted limit was and do my best to spend the least amount of money getting through as possible ... good thing the ury's got that 25 gallon tank! :-)

IME driving similar roads in California this is much less likely to be the case ... the places you are most likely to be caught in a speed trap are in cities ...

Another concern we've got is cops. I must say of all
the states I've lived in, the least troublesome are in
OR. They only use laser on I5, and not often. The
locals in the country are usually at a restaurant or
driving around with thier x-band on by accident.
