seems our local dealer got their undies in a bunch from a local car retailer calling every day repeatedly for radio codes, understandable, I do not like that local retailer either. so we get our needed SKC's from another dealer now, problem over for now until we get a 2004 A-8 in the shop. and yea, Si is a friend of mine, and Uwe? sheet! We even do phone thangs, prolly again tommorrow about this 2003 A-6 3.0 with 87 miles on it kicking my butt,,,and By the By, thanks for the replies, they honestly helped. Bestus, Bill

Thanks for the feedback.

I know Simon pretty well -- he sells VAG-COM systems in the UK now an
then..:-)

As far as SKC's are concerned, VW/Audi is legally required to give them
to you if you tell them you need it in order to perform an
emissions-related repair -- such as replacing an ECU. And it just so
happens that the same SKC is needed to to swap an ECU as to match keys
and so on. Now check out this file:

http://www.epa.gov/fedrgstr/EPA-AIR/2003/June/Day-27/a14461.pdf

The whole thing is pretty interesting, but the best part is on page 25,
section (6) about 1/3 of the way down the middle column..

VW *must* give SKCs to anyone doing emissions-related work "at a fair
and resonable cost". The question is, how to get VW to comply?

Best,

-Uwe-
