... I believe my suspicion has been validated, but I can't find a
reference to it ... so I'll repost as a suspicion ... 

I've always felt the diff lock actuators look an awful lot like the
pneumatic motors for the door/trunk locks.  I don't know if the proper
solution is to swap the diaphragm from a door lock to a diff lock or if
you can do a wholesale swap ... the door lock motors live a somewhat
better life than the diff lock actuators, so a diaphragm from one of
them should be almost like new ...
