I've actually been back through those threads before posting this here. The 
info is confusing.

I've had a look at a couple of cars though and I can say that on the 84 WR 
the Solenoid valve is energised at ignition on. At WOT it is actually switched 
off. This is the opposite to how I thought it operated. Switch on the ignition 
and pull the connector off the switch, the valve should click. The Haynes 
manual for the 200 suggests that the reverse is true (although even that is 
confused). In any case the 200 has the Mac 02 I think so also has some control over 
fueling. So the WOT enrichment may work in a different way. Maybe this is why 
on the WR the WOT switch does not seem to make a lot of difference.

here's some stuff I found with mine anyway.

It's interesting that I posted this on 2 other forums as well as this list 
and have only had this one reply from you, I thought someone must know the 
theory behind this set of pipes, I don't feel I've got to the bottom of it yet. I 
think it may have a bearing on high load high rpm pinging I sometimes get.
