[urq] 83 urq problem solved (hopefully)

I have posted a few times regarding my urq fuel problem. In short, due
to fuel starvation after about 5 minutes of driving, and I mean
starvation, I replaced all of the fuel injection system except the
injectors, had the tank inspected and re-inspected, the mechanic (a
reputable audi/vw mechanic who I know is a excellent CIS technician) who
did the work called me one day and told me to pick up the car, he had
not solved the problem and if I picked the car up within the hour I
would not have to pay labor - it being a couple of day's before
Christmas, and he did not desire to see the car ever again, it being the
only car in his career he could not fix. So I decided to give the car to
Sport Wheels, which I should have done in the first place except he
charges so damn much (sorry John). I digress, so John decides to blow
compressed air up the main pickup at the bottom of the gas tank when the
fuel starvation started, and behold the flow increased dramatically. So
I give the tank to a radiator repair guy (thanks Brady)
He cuts a 4 or 5" hole at the bottom of the tank in the center of the
lowest "depression", and just by accident we are right over the pickup,
which has an elongated metal fabric filter, about 5" long attached o the
end of the pickup, and it is covered with a cloth kinda fabric petrified
thing which I remove, to expose the entire metal filter. The filter has
a slice through it from the saw, so we cut it off,.he repairs the hole
and I reinstall the tank. Put in a new plastic filter before the pump
just in case, car fired right up and so far no problems. The pump is
louder than I think it should be, but it is a consistent sound, no
crackling and spitting noises. I have a backup I might install, but
before I do I want to replace the plastic filter with an after market
cleanable one. Any suggestions regarding microns, element types? BTW
