> The shop who is going to re-align my car says I need to make sure the (rear) tie-rods are
adjustable i.e. not jammed. How to unlock this 18 year old hardware? The shop suggested to
take the tie-rods off the car and use a bench and hammer and lot's of WD40 to free them.
Heat. Serious heat - oxy-acetylene. Once they're off, any competent workshop will free them
in minutes. I don't recommend violence.
> Question: to take the rear tie-rods off, do I have to relieve the car's weight off the
wheels (jack/stud the car) or could they just stay on the floor?
Either. Accessibility isn't bad, but it's slightly better with the wheel out of the way.
As with all major suspension parts, retighten with the weight of the car on the wheels.
