I have to say that Randy is the most down-to-earth, approachable race car drivers I've ever met. He is also a true gear-head with an amazing memory. His head is an encyclopedia of car and race knowledge.
If you want a really good time with him. Come to the Potomac-Chesapeake Chapter, Audi Club Drivers' School at VIR. For the past two springs he has accepted my invitation to come our April DE. He has come not as a representative of Champion Racing or AudiSport, but just because he enjoys the comraderie of the event, the club, and, of course, the driving.
This year he drove directly from the Porsche Rennsport event to VIR, leaving Sunday evening and arriving Monday afternoon in Danville, VA. He showed up in time for our usual banquet and charity auction/raffle and was awesome as usual. He got up and spoke about the 2003 SpeedGT season, and helped make our Charity Auction a big success by signing some of the items and even letting himself be "auctioned". We auctioned 2, 25 minute run sessions the next day with Randy as the in car instructor. With his help we raised ver $3600 which, as always, was donated to a charitable organization.
Randy stayed the whole day Tuesday. He spent the entire time jumping from car to car, taking DE participants for 3 laps around the course with them as passengers in their own cars. When he wasn't taking people for rides, he was chatting with people, signing autographs, giving advice, etc. We're hoping his schedule will allow him to make our December VIR event as well.
Somewhere in this group of pics is a shot of Randy with some of the volunteers who helped run this past April's VIR event:
