... are you really sure you need the complexity? If you started the fan as
soon as the key was inserted, assuming the fan did move a lot of air, it
seems to me it would cool things down fairly quickly. With the solution
you're considering if you stay a little longer to savor the 7-Elevn coffee
the fan might shut off and you'd have the same problem. Certainly you don't
expect the engine and exhaust system to significantly cool in 10 minutes.
My recommendation ... power the fan circuit with a load reduction relay that
turns on when the switch that rings the chime when the ignition key is left
in the ignition switch. This way the fan will turn on (if needed) as soon
as you insert the key ... and if you want the fans to run while the car is
shut down for a few minutes you can leave a different key in the switch (a
blank, or anything that would actuate the cover on the top of the switch)
... then the fan would run the entire time you were out ...
