[urq] Tranny Linkage fix (help?)

... funny, I'm working through this on my former 4kQ ... my wife's brother
now has it ...

What you'll find is that after you pop the locating arm socket off the
bellhousing and remove the attachment bolt on the tranny input shaft you can
get the linkage to drop down where it can be more easily accessed. If you
want even more room you can pop the shifter linkage out inside the passenger
compartment ... if you want the linkage to come out of the car, mark the
relative positions of the fore and aft spline sections of the linkage to
make sure that you can put it together the same as it was beforehand ...
then loosen the clamp to allow the parts to come apart ...

Chances are what you'll need the ball and the "shift linkage" ... i.e. the
rod that attaches to the shift rod on the tranny. You might want to also
look at replacing the locating arm (sorry I don't remember the Audi-speak
names) ... it's the arm that attaches to the ball at the top of the tranny
bellhousing ... if you replaced all three parts you would catch all the
items that wear at the transmission end of the linkage ... but at
stealership prices you're probably talking $250+ in parts ...

I will also be replacing the clutch flex hose and clutch slave while I'm in
there ... if your clutch is squishy you may want to do this as well ...
