... you can bet that it did! It completely mystifies me why these things
get lost when the starter gets replaced. One of the benefits of having paid
too much for my used urq back in 1986 was that parts were not a problem!
When I pulled my engine apart to fix a minor oil leak in the turbo seals I
found that the heat shield that protects the engine mount and oil filters as
well as the one on the starter were no longer present. It was not a problem
getting replacements at that time. The shield the car originally had is a
stamped metal plate which was held in place by two hose clamps. This shield
isolated both the starter motor and the solenoid from the turbo/EM heat.
Many cars have reduction starters from newer cars ... the starter motor on
these units is a smaller diameter ... I was able to continue to use the
larger heat shield ... and I incorporated the aluminum/fiberglass solenoid
heat shield that the 5000T used.
