My car doesn't have any "tray" nor do I _think_ they came with one. Standard 
batteries in '83 were much more standard in height than all the options 
available these days, and I can't see how the hold down clamp could function if 
there was much of a "platform" down there.

Any original equipment gurus out there feel free to chip in here.
