Sorry to but in, but you are incorrect on the info for '84 4000 quattro...
Those cars already had the new suspension... BTDT (may she RIP).
For that matter Mike's '83 Euro 80q 2-door also already has the new style
suspension.
The change was an '83 cross the board... 4000, 80, 90, Coupes and urquattro.

As for your subframe, you'll need a 1984 4000 Quattro (or
1983 urQ...) car to get the same attachments for your early
style sway bar.

If you find only a newer car (4KQ 1985 and up, or even a
80Q, 90Q or Coupe Quattro), then you'll need to swap the
entire sub with the a-arms and the newer style swaybar.
You'll need a 5 cylinder car.

And for my personal info, just to complete a discussion we
had on this list a month ago:
Are your subframe and a-arms bushings the OEM rubber units
or aluminum/poly/Delrin custom parts?

subframe. i was wondering if this part is the same as
either a 4kq or a fwd4k. also, we might need control
