I think I drove that car. I was about to buy it the day after
somebody else put a down payment on it. Mileage was about the same,
with 46 or 43. The car was in good shape, typical Ur features about,
including slow windows and non-working diff locks. It was a shared
car between two dealers (long island and CT). I went to look at it in
CT. It was repainted white, with white wheels, if i'm not mistaken.
One of the dealers said he had replaced the brakes and shocks. The
car was real pretty, and I bet they did exactly what the reporter
suggested. Certainly worth 7 in the condition it was in (that was the
asking price). The car I own now is on par, with similar upgrades,
but is a little more worked over. Private owners tend to care a
little bit more about the nuances of audi ownership.
How long ago was this? I'm not sure it's the same car, but probably is.

Lots of dings on the trailing edge of driver's door-opened in anger too many times? Yoko Avid V4 tires. Interior dry and cracked, looks to have more wear than miles admit. Condition: 4+ SOLD AT $4180"

As far as values, I consider my car to be worth every penny of the 8500 I paid for it in '99, but I wouldn't sell it for under 10 simply because I like it so much. That, and I've spend waaaayy to much on it since then addressing issues that afflict every UrQ, regardless of condition, and a few upgrades. So I'd be upside down no matter what :)
