It's late and Friday night and this will probably not make much sense,
for this I apologise up front.
I was born in 1966 and grew up watching Audi's starting to win rally's
in the early 80s. The first car I "really" remember my father buying was in
1983 when he bought a new Coupe GT, he couldn't be convinced at the time
to spend twice that on an ur-q. That was as close as they ever were to
the Coupe GT in terms of price from there the differential became huge.
I always dreamed of owning a quattro, but in the UK it was never
practical. I moved to Canada in 1992 and have lived there since, I currently own too many Audis, 5 of which are quattros, and three of which could be
sort of called ur-quattros. Only 99 were imported to Canada and I would be
surprised if more than 20% are road worthy.
Frankly, I have given up with Audi supporting these cars, I get as much
percentage discount as the parts guys are able to give at Agincourt, and
for that I am truly greatful - they give me the same as local independants.
I wish Audi could give a little respect to the car that much of their
current value is based on. Frankly, I am not looking for cheap parts,
I am just looking for affordable parts, if I can't get them I will just
give up and move on(now). I don't have that income to keep financing this
"hobby" and I think many of us are now realizing this.
I am surprised that most of the complaints I hear come from North America, maybe because there are fewer cars here? Whatever, I wish Audi well, I love
the cars, but will not be replacing the logos and rings or anything else
that is not a basic maintenance or safety item.
Good luck Audi - I wish you well and consider it sad how you have
treated your heritage.

You're right of course Ed, you could put a smaller wing on the car. But the
whole "feel" of the car is different. It's designed to stick out, even if
it has to be dog ugly to do it.
I just turned 27, so I don't consider myself old, but it seems like most of
the younger crowd will take a wild looking Evo or STi over and understated
Audi or BMW any day. Most of my friends wouldn't be caught dead in one of
those cars, even if they recognize that they're great performers.
Me, I like a car that doesn't necessarily stand out, that doesn't have
purple cloth on the interior or carbon fiber on the dash or a titanium shift
knob.

In re: the big wings on the Evo or STi, I was just wondering and
thought that surely you could find an base Evo or Imprezza (do they
still sell these?) owner who would trade the whole trunk lid and wing
with you. Seems to me that'd be a pretty direct bolt-on swap.
Wouldn't do much for the gape-mouthed scoops etc...
