My father had stated value insurance on two Corvettes that were destroyed.
One was in a traffic accident, one on the track.
In the traffic accident my brother was making a left-hand turn and a kid in
a Nissan Maxima doing approx. 80 mph in a 40 mph zone broadsided him. The
1965 Corvette was destroyed and my brother was lucky to live (if he had worn
the optional lap belt he probably would have been killed). Anyway, aside
from issues about driving the car (it had New Jersey QQ plates - historic),
he got the $40k that car was insured at with no issues. The insurance
company just dealt directly with the kid's (well, daddy's) insurance co.
With the track event, he swerved to avoid a barrel in the infield portion at
Pocono (AWFUL track, IMHO, and piss-poor flagging) and slid off. It rolled
(since the ground in many places is lower than the paved track in the
infield) and cracked the firewall. After a lot of headaches he got the
stated value from the same insurance co.
HTH.
