Your information is awesome and timely, I have
always suspected the A4/urq equation.
So the urq folks should recognize some inexpensive
upgrades now available that are better than the old G60.
The question for many is what will work with 15" rims?
If that is not a question, then the A4 line
of brakes adds an inexpensive upgrade path.
First they can use A4 calipers with TT brackets
and use the A8 rotor which will be more brake
than the G60, and A4 owners are throwing calipers
away when they upgrade to Brembo,Stoptech, etc., so they should be
available inexpensively. This would be a decent upgrade for a stock
urq.
Boxster over A8 is next upgrade, or ECS special rotors.
There are so many A4 brake upgrades...take your pick;
from 25mm to 32 mm thickness, and from 276? to 314 or larger
rotor sizes, just depends on how much wheel you will stuff
it into!
Brembo or Stoptech are the ultimate front brake, but will require
17" rims; although, I am sure you can make 996 calipers work on
16" rims.
You mentioned rear 200/urS4 rears. Be careful here.
200 rotors have a different offset (hat dimension) than
the urS4. I made this mistake, as I have both a 91 Avant
and an 96 S6 and the rear rotors are different, but the
calipers are the same.
What do you use for emergency brake cables to make the
calipers work?
Thanks for the excellent information.

Well then let me be the one to report it... ;)
A4 brakes are a direct bolt-on to the urq. I ran a
set of A4 calipers and rotors and they were marginally
better than the G60 setup I had before it. Then I
tried a BIRA Sys1 setup, Boxster calipers over A8
rotors, and it worked very well. Finally I've gone
with a StopTech kit designed for the A4. Combined
with the 200/S4 rear brakes, the car stops awesome.
