The Mazdaspeed, except for being only FWD, is WAY more car than a stock  WRX.
 
Its horsepower rating is sandbagged quite a bit.  I drove one of these  head 
to head at a mazda/subie dealer the day I bought my TT a year and a half  ago. 
 The Mazda felt like a true sports sedan, ergonomic, nice seats, great  
feeling brakes, and a little-engine-that-could.  I drove the WRX  immediately after 
the Mazda and the WRX felt SO lame that I took it off my  list.  I knew I 
couldnt be happy with a stock WRX and to bring it up to par  I woulda spent about 
$3 grand minimum.  BTW, the Mazdaspeed was about $4000  less than the subie.
 
Needless to say, a two year old Audi Certified TT225Q won out that  day, it 
was in the same price range as the Subie,  but there is still  a place in my 
heart for that lil' mazdaspeed.
