[urq] Balljoints for an 83

Personally I like the older suspension a bit better. The components are a
bit beefier and you keep the same tie rods front/rear.

The reason for changing the setup initially was to bring the rear tie rod to
the outside of the subframe and therefore lengthening the tie rod arm.
This was supposed to fix the lift throttle oversteer caused by toe angle
change during wheight transfer. At the same time the rear sway bar was
eliminated.

Later Ur-q and 4kq rear ends are basically identical except for the 5 bolt
hubs.
Considering the number of 4kq cars the rear suspension bits like ball joints
and tie rods are readily available and not overly expensive.

Hope this helps

Is there any merit to retaining the older style, or just as well swith to
the kind found on the 4000 quattros which I have plenty of? Or is the later
Q different still.

Darn!!!!!!!!!!

can you say darn on the list ;-)

I bought a set of 857 505 365 ball joints a while back from Rod and Martin
just made me realize I have the newer setup (for the 83) suspension on my
car. The 857 505 365 will not fit. I can get the ones from rareparts. Now
I got to get rid of a brand new set of 857 505 365 ball joints. Thanks
goodness for ebay.

Ok, so the VIN numbers don't mean much in 83.

Cheers
