[urq] Ideas for rough running continued - Solved?

I checked the resistance of the rotor while I was out testing with the
vacuum line to the ECU plugged (which didn't seem to make any
difference). The rotor resistance is 1184. Not sure if that's too
far off spec but I tell you what, I really seem to have pissed it off
now. Had a tough time getting it started and managed to generate a
hair-raising backfire in the process.
It was much worse at first but then it seemed to clear up and sat
there idling very nicely. Then it was like someone threw a switch and
it started to stumble and cutout and required some throttle to keep it
running. Then it seemed to clear up and it idled again just fine for
a couple of minutes until Mr. Hyde returned. I left it alone this
time and it finally cutout enough to die.
One time after the engine died, the fuel pump stayed running until I
turned the key off. That was weird.
I managed to produce another gunshot backfire which elicited comment
from the neighbors next door who are outside doing yard work, so I
thought I should give it a rest. But before I came in it restarted
and ran smooth again for a moment until I just shut it off.
