[urq] I'm SO close to giving up...Anyone have a stick of

John,

I've had pretty much the exact same symptoms and it has been a cumlmination
of many small things that add up and you will probably find like I did that
there is no one singular cause. Yes, I know you have a long list of things
you have done, but it is not long enough.

Start by cleaning that air intake temp sensor - mine was loaded up with
carbon deposits. As Steve mentions, use solder not crimping on this one, or
better leave intact and try cleaning it first. I used alcohol and dipped in
a cap then gently swabbed it until clean. Having that nice bright shiny
wire did make a significant difference, but did not completey solve the
problem.

Injector seals, fuel pressure check/repair, vacuum lines and then more
vacuum lines are in order. Mine is not completly finished yet, but I have
it pulling fairly hard now as if I had installed the chipped MC engine
already! I think my last holdout is the O2 sensor which seems to be
throwing off my mixture, and confirmed this after replacing the exhaust
system.

Wow! Not so sure I'd recommend this! The wires are soldered on for a
reason ... the temp sensor is a low value thermistor, and so resistance
caused by connectors can be significant. This is precisely why
Audi/Hitachi hardwired the harness ... there's only one disconnect ...
at the F/TCU. The newer cars have a higher resistance thermistor, so
the added contact resistance isn't significant ... and those cars have a
quick disconnect connector for the IAT sensor.

If you suspect there's an issue with the soldered connection I'd
recommend resoldering ... but from my point of view, the addition of a
crimped on spade connector is a bad long term fix ...

Getting back to the original poster ... you might want to check the
archives ... your report sounds very familiar ... was it Dennis in
Denver who fought this sort of problem for a long time? I seem to
recall that he did actually find a cause in the end ... ]
