Not to be a nervous-nelly, but when a tire manufacturer publishes an
acceptable range of rim widths, it's important. Having experienced a
blow-out at freeway speeds, I wouldn't want to exceed that range. I
recently bought a set of 8" Ronals and am dismayed to see the 205/50
tires on them are listed for 5.5 - 7.5" rim widths. Anyway...

Here's an option for those having trouble finding tires they want.
I'm running a 235 width tire on an 8" wheel by going with a different
offset. The Ronals are ET24 and I'm running at 27mm with an ET35
wheel and an 8mm spacer. I'm also running coilovers which removes the
spring perches from the struts giving more space. Even without
changing the spring perches, y'all may be able to machine a couple mm
off the inside surface of the wheel to create some more room under the
fenders for a 225/50-15 tire. And there are lots of options in that
size that are rated for an 8" wide wheel.

This begs the question, which is worse: running a tire designed for a
narrower wheel or running a modified wheel?

Rich
