I don't see why the start button wouldn't work. Sounds like  a good solution 
to me. Oh, and Z8's also use this, so you don't have to use  the "H" word :)

I put a starter button in mine. Worked fine, and felt more like a race  setup 
actually.
I also relayed the starter, and rebuilt and installed a gear reduction  unit, 
and occasionally still had starter heat soak.
I still think it's a good and worthwhile mod. Give that old tired  electrical 
system all the help it can get.
