Huh???  I think some of the morphing of this may well be due to a
crosspost ... 

I can't imagine what damage could be done by towing the car with all 4
wheels on the ground ... isn't that the same thing that happens when you
are coasting???

I don't have the manual to confirm, but I would have an issue with
trying to tow the car with one "axle" stopped and the other turning, but
even that might be OK per the manual.  

The Owner's Manual for a V8 is probably talking about the slushbox
version ... which does not have a Torsen center diff.  While I don't
claim to be an expert on slushboxes, it is my understanding that it is
not recommended to tow cars with trannies that have no rear fluid pump
for long distances with the wheels on the ground ... and I do believe
the ZF in the V8 fits that description.
