I really like that old Urq suspension, too. I plan to keep
the struts for a while until I prove that the new suspension
is viable long-term. Everything went together OK on the front
so I am confident that it will work great. The rear has me
stuck right now, and I may have to back off and stay with the
factory rear struts. If I decide to sell any of the suspension,
though, I'll give you first dibs on it.
> Is this in order to use 90q ball joints/tie rods?
Yes, that is partly the reason. First, it gives me two adjustable
tie rods rather than one, so the front toe and steering wheel can
be aligned better. Secondly, it provides me with a 12 year newer
suspension, parts will be available for a long time, and my upgrade
options are a little better (S2/RS2 sway bars; I can cut up a set of
strut tops for coil overs and not feel bad). Third, some of these
parts are cheaper than the Urq alternative and should save me money
in the long run. Fourth, I am hoping that the front 82mm wheel
bearings will hold up better under track use once I install my AAN
motor (the factory 75mm bearings had a lot of wobble in them).
Finally, I have not seen this done before and it looked feasible.
If it works out, then I have learned a lot and contributed some
knowledge to the Urq community that others may benefit from.
Later,
