Jack,

It would be helpful for you to look at a trans form a 5ktq or 200Q, but
not
absolutely necessary.

Basically, you need to machine a "U" shaped hole in the bell housing of
the
transmission so that the speed sensor will fit in. The U portion will
line
up with the cutout in the engine for the sensors. From my recall a 3/4"
hole is about right, but just needs to be big enough for the sensor to
fit
in without interferance.

I'd suggest mating up the trans with the engine and see where the cut(s)
need to be made and mark with a marker. Then separate the trans again
so
you can make the cut without damaging anything.

You can probably most easily drill the hole 3/4 or 7/8" I forget. Then
cut
two notches to intersect the hole. You will be left with a "U" shaped
cutout. The sender assembly bolts to the engine and there are no other
holes to tap or drill.

I had to do this in situ with a reamer since I had already installed the
engine and trans. It would have been much easier to do when apart and
out
of the car.

When you notched the trans could you be more elaborate in the
description?

I've got an AAN motor into a 83 UrQ trans
