Yes, I've BTDT long ago ...
I just made it work from inside the car ... if you can't seem to reach
through the hole to grab the boot you can pull the rod it is on off the
e-brake mechanism and pull it into the cabin far enough to access the
dangling boot.
I don't recall this one being that difficult to seat on the rim ... ISTR
the similar boot on the shift linkage was a bit more difficult. If you
have problems getting the rim in the boot to engage the seam you may
want to pull the entire lip of the boot into the cabin (i.e. pull in the
first fold or two of the accordion section, and then carefully wok the
boot around the edge of the seam.
