What the heck, I was tooling in the garage all day yesterday pulling the
beloved CIS out of my red Ur. More of the norm, 6 song rotation and loop of
commercials complimented by the occasional sh*t or f*ck rolling out of my lips.
One commercial stuck out enough that I finally payed attention to the whole
thing.
Midnight Mayhem at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. They are doing many of
these events thru the year to try and keep the kids from racing on the street.
Run-what-ya-brung, anything goes, race whoever you want for the low low price of
$10.
Make some dinner, take a shower to remove the CIS filth, and off I go. I was
glad to see there was such a variety of cars out there, no single group
dominated the showing. A little bit of everything, EVO's Hondo's, Subey's, American
Muscle, a few of them Big-D*ck pickup trucks too.
I managed to get in 3 runs, there was alot of down time and sitting around.
That reminded me of why I hadnt gone back to the drag strip since High School
Drags at Bandimere shortly to be 2 decades ago.
I was surprised to see a handful of other Audi artillary present, S4's of
various vintage - including a 2005 with an uncorked exhaust. Hats off to the S4
drivers that let us HEAR that luscious V8, it put a stirring in my loins. I
was 2 cars behind him during one run so I saw his ET; 14.34. Nice, but he was
effectively spanked by that new Caddy. It was a nice looking race though,
both cars shiny black and tricked out, a sight of evil. I really wanted the S4
to win.
I got in 3 runs, the first being the best. Car was cool my mind was clear.
My Helios Ur ticked off a best of 14.6 at 97mph. Not too shabby for some old
euro-trash. I didnt really have a clue of what to expect I was mostly just
curious. What was most impressive was the 60 foot times, that car launches so
hard LOL 2.145 @ 60 feet is pretty fun. Most of my stoplight battles are won
by shear surprise when this car leaps off the green.
There were some hot EVO's, man them cars are plain wicked. The same run I
was 2 cars behind the S4 / Cadillac duel I was one set of cars behind Lancer vs
Lancer. Silver one, my lane, looked and made sounds you couldnt help but
respect - no matter if you hate them or not. Where as the Caddy that punked the
S4 ran a 13.93, this EVO literally set the strip on fire and pulled a 12.73 !!!
Good lord, I think I need one of those afterall.
Friday night was a spontaneous trip in to an unfamiliar world where the
steering wheel moves less than even NASCAR. I will always favor a road course with
30 minute run sessions but it was fun, not sure if I'll go back too soon, if
I do will probably spend more time looking than driving.
