Are you serious? Not to kick a man when he's down, or be a Monday
morning quarterback, but it's not secret that the SQ replica hoods for
urq/4k/CGT's are different than the real SQ hood. I suspect (not
quite recall) that it was even mentioned in the urq list discussions
when the deal was first formed. Seems like a very preventable error,
but I'm sure it's been said before if that's what happened.

One thing I have heard about the hoods that are already on the market,
is that they take almost an additional purchase price worth of
bodywork trying to fit it to the car. Marc Swanson's sweet 4ktq comes
to mind. I always had a hard time accepting that the total cost is
way over a grand to get the hood fit it. It would sure be nice if the
quality of the hoods produced were good enough to bolt on and paint,
rather than "finish" the fiberglass work or whatever is necessary to
get a decent result.
I'm starting to change my opinion about group purchases. Used to be,
I felt that there was somewhat "safety in numbers". But after buying
a 20vt tube header from Sweden with a bunch of other dudes, and then
trying to resolve some issues with the manufacturer, who basically
said "Too bad, so sad", I no longer feel that way. I think trust and
reputation of the seller is as important in group buys as it is with
individual purchases. I guess it's nice to commiserate tho'. =(
I'd like the option of getting a nice quality replica hood.
Apparently a stroker block and 20v head don't fit under the stock
hood, so I'm semi-switching my project motor recipient to a CQ (at
least in my head, because the real-life part is slow going!).
