Even better is a local VW performance shop here in Santa Clara, CA that just last week wanted $17.99 for a Mahle oil filter!! Even my local Audi dealer sells the factory filters for $7.99....

After so many complaints from listers (including me!) about high prices for
our older cars, I found at least one part that was clearly inexpensive:
811 823 531 is the hood release cable assembly, including the in-car
handle: retail price is only 14.23 $CAN. That is real cheap in my book.

The funny thing is that the grommet (in fact a very simple rubber plug)
that goes in the body where the cable passes thru is 3.60 $ !! This part
(311 611 743) is so common it fits all VAG cars from 1947 to 1996 !

I guess they have to make their money somewhere :-)

So, Brady, when that shop charged you around 50$ for the cable of your
4000Q, they made a HUGE markup, didn't they ?
