... the problem is likely to be worn bushings somewhere in the linkage
or a loose shift link rod at the tranny end ... go through the plastic
bits again and the shift rod ... and make sure the bolt that holds the
shift rod to the tranny selector rod is still on tight ... and it will
very likely cure your problem.
I don't know for sure, but I think all the tool does is to line up holes
in the mounting pieces ... pretty sure a couple of the appropriately
sized rods would do the same thing ... look at the picture in the
service manual ...
