Following up on this, the Registry's records show that a salvage title (totaled/reconstructed) was issued in Oregon for 1983 #900062. This should be disclosed by the seller to any buyer in advance of the purchase. I have no record of the nature of the accident or where the car was repaired, although Andrew's post suggests this. For a classic or collectible car, especially one that is 23 years old, the status of the title may not mean a lot if the repair has been properly done, but a buyer should contact his/her insurer first to see what the consequences might be from buying and insuring a car with a salvage title. Often, it means that the insurance payout maximum will be only 80% of book value, and we all wish we knew the "book value" for urqs.... On a classic car policy, the insurance payout should be for the agreed-value, as opposed to almost meaingless--for urqs--"actual cash value" under regular auto policies. It also seems to me that few states require titles or issue new titles for cars that are over 15 years old. So the quality of the repairs is the key concern.

My $.02.

If the red ur quattro is the one I've seen sitting for over a year at 2Bennett's shop and at Natomas Auto Body in Sacramento, and I think it is, you guys need to know the front end received serious damage and that is why it was salvaged. It needed an entire chunk of the frame replaced in the front (can't remember whether it was left or right). I saw it sitting before and after the accident for ages. Hope that helps someone.
