Guys-
I got a call from the local ACNA Chapter head guy today - Dean Esmail -
very active in the Club - and I'm not sure why he called me now,
although we have talked in the past about getting the Urq guys to come
to some ACNA events, and I was a Quattro, err Audi Club member for many
years, but let my membership lapse recently, and anyway he called to
talk about 2 things. 1. Apparently ACNA _is_ talking with Audi and
some clubs in Europe, UCI I believe, about making or getting parts for
older cars available to ACNA members - they are fully aware of parts
issues he said. Now I don't know how this relates to "the big sell off"
and I asked if he knew if parts for urquattros specifically were being
addressed and he said they were, as the Anderson's of MN were
representing. I offered to be a liaison between the urq contingent and
ACNA but he said he thought the Andersons were working on our behalf
becasue they have several urquattros. Maybe so they can be US
distributor for all I know....anyway its not something that will happen
tomorrow, I don't know if this will help us at all but I do think now
would be a good time to put together a list of parts that are important.
As I've mentioned - I think a great solution woudl be to have a password
protected site with a spreadsheet - one column with "Part in Concern" -
hopefully with a p/n and the next columns woudl have either cross
references to other mfgr p/n's for same part, substitute parts, and/or
alternative solutions. We'd end with a part list where you can get
creative, and ultimately a list of parts with no alternatives that we
could focus on trying to get small vendors to make runs for us....
the second reason he called was to invite any urquattros to Vail on Sept
17 to show our cars at the Colorado Grande - a high fallutin' (sp?) 1000
mile road rally through CO with some pretty rare and exotic old
machinery - could be pretty cool - road trip up to Vail for the day -
maybe take Loveland Pass there or back...I'm sure we could stop at Jim
F's house and raid his frig...
