As some of you may know, when the 20vt conversion was done on my car, before
I got it, the power steering was deleted for unknown reasons.
I finally found a pump correct to the engine for a decent price, and had the
custom hose made to connect the 3b pump to the type 85 PS rack. I'm also
replacing the Tilton dual M/C brake setup with a vacuum assist system with
single 25.4mm m/c. While in there, I replaced all the coolant hoses, which
were either rotten or badly jury-rigged to fit the large custom radiator,
and the breather hose which had been crushed by one of the aforementioned
riggings.
I also built much better 4-walled aluminum shrouding for the 944t
intercooler while it was out...
Today, with no brake components yet in the car (in case the rack leaked when
pressurized and had to be removed) I finished closing up the coolant system
and fired her up, first to flush the PS system, then with it closed up. The
rack was bone dry when I took the plugs out to reconnect the hoses, so I
wasn't exactly optimistic that it would still have a perfect seal, but
figured I would try...
As soon as it got up to pressure, the rack started absolutely gushing from
the starboard seal...with the car off, turning the wheels yields a pleasant
squishing sound...I'm not surprised, but $45 worth of pentosin 11S later,
I'm definitely bummed. I'm waiting on a call back on a replacement seal kit
for the rack right now...and to think I could possibly have had my car back
on the road this weekend!...Sigh...
