Why did Audi not think of that? There must be a reason the kept it at 26 pounds imho. (perhaps the extra weight decreased deceleration running up hills?).

Not quit similar, but I just replaced the belt for the PS pump on my FWD Coupe GT, 'cause it started "gobbling" too. Always thought it was a shot bearing, but it turned out just a worn belt... (easy trick to identify the worn suspect is to spray "belt-dressing" on it).
