[urq] Alternator question / in need of help real soon.

Please help me, this is for my Coupe GT with analog dash:


A. The battery light stays on while driving, although faintly, sometimes it goes out completely but it always goes on (very brightly) when braking.

B. The voltage gauge reads way below 13V (8V I believe) and never move at revs.

C. When ignition key is switched, only the oil light is on.

D. V-belt is not new but not worn either (I guess) and tensioned, no noises.

E. At tickover, the battery light stays on (just a little if you know what I mean) and the temperature light , although occasionally and intermittent.

I already charged the battery to no avail. (we had some serious cold nights)

Doesn't all the lights suppose to lit upon ignition on? I have no user manual at hand. 

Any advice? I don't understand why the light is bright when braking and not while driving.

Haynes says when the voltage regulator is faulty, the light doesn't stay on. It says off when most likely the alternator (brush) is at fault, is this correct?
