Yesterday my friend Bob came over with his S6 Avant and we swapped complete
coil pack assemblies. I removed mine and put it on his engine and we started it
up and went for a drive. His car ran flawlessly, pulled like a freight train
up to 7000 rpm and never failed. There was no reason to install his coil pack
on my car after that. So this means that all my coils pack are good. This will
also mean that I have a bigger problem on my car. Since it now confirms that
I have everything testing good from the ECU to the POS's, the POS's, and now
everything past the POS's, it will mean that I have a mechanical issue. So,
with a compression test that tested good, a leak down test that tested good, fuel
injector test/swap/wiring is good, ignition test/ECU/wiring/POS/coils/spark
plug boots/spark plugs all tested good and/or replaced with new, I'm left with
either valve train issues or piston/lower end issues. This weekend, I am going
to (once again) pull the valve cover and cams, and lifters and inject
compressed air into the cylinder to keep the valves from falling into the cylinder. I
will then remove all the valve springs and see what I have going there. When
I checked the springs when I installed the new lifters, I never took them all
the way out to inspect, I only visually looked at them for major problems. If
#4 cylinder valve springs check out OK, I will continue to drive the car until
I finish rebuilding my other AAN. This nightmare isn't over yet, but I wanted
to thanks everyone who has suggested anything related to my problem. Please
keep your suggestions coming! If there is anything I have over looked, please
feel free to chime in.
Jim
